Who knew? Apparently Saskatchewan’s Education Act still allows for prayer in public schools. A Moose Jaw parent was surprised to discover her child’s school day started with the Lord’s Prayer, and challenged the practice. Trustees voted in support of the praying at Lindale school, stating the majority of parents supported the opening prayer.
David Arnot, head of the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission, told the media that the Act would likely be overruled if it were challenged in court. The Commission has already ruled in the past that the practice is discriminatory, but its recommendations do not have the force of law.
