Rising workload stress was behind Saskatchewan teachers’ rejection of their latest contract offer, according to the STF. In recent years, teachers have struggled to keep up with new student assessment programs, changes to the work day, and larger classes with more diverse learning needs. RealRenewal has been raising the issue of teacher stress with decision-makers for years, because children bring it home with them at the end of the school day. Now that it’s a contract issue, we can only hope decision-makers will begin to hear that overwork is a real structural problem, not just a complaint. STF statement.
